If you follow me on Instagram, which you should if you’re not, I posted about my infatuation with oversized clutches. It all began with Tracee Ellis Ross, who is the epitome of style and one of my forever style icons. Ever since her character, Joan Clayton, of the popular tv sitcom, Girlfriends, style fully clutched hers through L.A.’s streets, I’ve been smitten stupid. It’s become my ultimate bag of choice and as my collection grows, I’m always looking for brands that meet my need for exquisite fashion under armor.

I’ll have to be honest, I’m pretty picky when it comes to…well, EVERYTHING! Clutches for certain, don’t take a back seat. I prefer to spend my hard earned coins with smaller brands that I adore, believe in and provide handmade goods. Since I’m something like a clutch aficionado, there are always four main factors that encourage my purchasing decision, which is: Quality craftsmanship, overall design, superb materials and has the ability to make an instant statement. With these 4 ingredients, the perfect clutch is at my fingertips and ready to style! Because I love them so much, I thought I’d share some of my favorite brands in my collection that you should hop on NOW! Today, I’m starting with a brand called B. Culture.

Candice Jones, who is the creative designer of B.Culture Handbags, is a Jacksonville, Fl. Native but states that she’s Wakandan native in spirit. Candice says, “I’ve always had a fire burning for fashion, being creative and standing out.”

Candice Writes:

Christmas 2015, I received a sewing machine from my sister and a year later I decided to open the box, hop on Youtube and figure it all out. Candi Bags was birthed and I began making and selling my bags via Etsy and local craft shows. Candi Bags was repurposed to B. Culture early 2018 because the vision became clearer for a need to utilize my gift and platform to inspire through fashion. Fashion is an expressive art, it has a voice without words. You can tell how someone feels via fashion, you can uplift via fashion. It is my mission through B. Culture to advocate self-love, happiness and authenticity and above all else EXTRANESS by creating pieces and content that is bold and sassy! B. Culture is a brand that is “making history” so follow the journey from gift to greatness!

I would describe her overall brand aesthetic as vibrantly eclectic. Her bags range from bold and eccentric patterns and colors to variating textures and eye-catching designs.  Majority of my collection is leather because I enjoy how beautifully the material ages. However, I’m impressed if I can acquire a bag that gives me the luxe look without the hefty price tag. B. Culture delivers exponentially well. This clutch with smooth, buttery vegan leather and an overlapping flap of season-appropriate brown tonal faux fur, tugged at my heartstrings when it arrived in the mail. After given the opportunity to design my own bag through her brand, I was ecstatic to be able to share it with you guys and give you an opportunity to get your hands on one very similar. I had a “Grab Your Garb” moment (you can read about what this means here) and instantly fell head over heels for how well the bag mimicked it’s genuine counterparts beautifully.

Not pictured is the inside of the bag, but let me just tell you that the unique lining with two open pockets for small accessible goodies, added the finishing touch to this amazing handmade handbag. To top it all off, I received her business card for admirers to easily access her brand, as well as an information card with details on how to properly care for my new bag, all tucked nicely inside. Talk about an awesome brand presentation!! From the outside to the inside, I checked my 4 qualifications off my list and was off to style it.

I decided to keep my color palette in the brown family, by incorporating different shades and tones in my look. The bag was truly my inspiration with a colliding perfection of yummy, how do you like your coffee colored fur, and black base, so I kept my base aka my shoes, black as well. This caramel colored trench from Kosmios was the perfect backdrop to give the bag its shine but simultaneously stood as a statement-maker all on its own. I decided on a nude, high neck bodysuit to pair it with and a tan midi skirt with front zippered detail for added flair. The fringe on my peep-toe booties was the perfect addition to compliment a streamlined look and bring my color palette full circle.
