Often times I wonder what life would be like without fast fashion. Have you ever thought about it? I mean, how much further ahead would we be? How much waste would we have actually avoided? How much more conscious and intentional would be about our planet and our wardrobes? Would you value your items a little bit more? Would you think about what you buy and how often that you buy a little bit more? As a new season approaches, I’m always reevaluating my wardrobe, and determining the best choices to make when it comes to ensuring that I’m ready for the new season. Although I have entered into seasons unprepared and made due, I always take inventory, and proceed with a plan that I try my best to stick to. An effort made is better than none at all.
It’s funny that I live in Houston and my fall/winter wardrobe is larger than my spring/summer. If you’re unfamiliar with the melting pot that is Houston, we typically have no spring and our summer’s are brutal. Those people who were complaining about us complaining about the winter storm that hit us a few weeks ago, I guarantee could not last an entire summer in Houston. I put money on it! This new season, I’m planning to bring a lot more dresses into my wardrobe. At one point, I owned so many dresses, that it was insane to the see the number of them that never actually got worn. Many of them still in pristine condition with the tags attached. As they dwindled, so did my interest in re purchasing them. Something recently struck a style chord in me that reignited the flame of spring dresses, so you’ll see a lot more this upcoming season. I’m also investing in some additional bottoms.
Currently, I have 1 pair of breezy casual pants in a neutral color that can be dressed up or down. You can check them out here. I also have a black body con skirt that I utilize in my all season wear capsule, a cute pair of yellow suspender pants, 6 pair of denim that I rotate through all seasons, a tan stretch midi skirt (pictures on my look book here) and a tiered leopard skirt. You guys have seen all of these items before. Click the links to check out what they look like. So to recap: 2 pairs of pants (tan and yellow), 6 pairs of jeans (varying washes but mostly light-med), and 3 skirts (black, tan and leopard). Altogether a total of 11 bottoms. Although this is a nice selection of bottoms to rotate through for my spring/summer capsule, I have planned to add at least 4 more bottoms to the mix. Two of which are bold color pants. I’m not quite sure what other bottoms that I’ll be adding, but I’m allowing myself 2 more new in bottoms, aside from the 2 that I just mentioned, to round of this category for the new season.
I’ll keep you updated on what I decide. I also have 11 tops, 7 jumpsuits/dresses and 2 outerwear. I’m still mulling over how many more pieces that I’m going to add to my tops and outerwear, but I for sure am adding about 3-4 new dress or jumpsuit styles. So as of now, my total clothing count that I’m certain that I absolutely love and want to keep in my capsule is 31 pieces. The total new in pieces that I am certain of purchasing is 7-8. Pretty darn good if I may say so myself. All of this came from planning, preparation and organization. If you want to get like me, book the HGG Closet Edit Experience. The Styling:
This look is ultra simple. I paired an oversized button down shirt with a pair of bottoms that I pulled apart from this set here. To give the look a little more drama, I tucked in both sides of the top to create a blousy and layered effect and wrapped some gold necklaces around my hands to look like a free falling chain bracelet. What takes the outfit from cute to poppin’ are these unbelievably dynamic pair of earrings from Cree & Company. If you follow me on Instagram and you’re one that religiously watches my stories, then you know that I’ve been sharing her amazing work. I’ve also been sharing the opportunity for you to get your hands on her collection and save some coins. These are RIDICULOUSLY light and are perfect for those of you who love to wear big earrings without the weight. They are literally light as a feather.
