Beginning Again

It’s the year 2020! How have you made out so far? Any resolutions in the works? Any goals completed? It’s still early, but everyone is on a different life schedule. I stopped making resolutions a while ago. Every day, down to the second of each day is another opportunity to refocus. The top of the year is just the top of the year. You can begin again at any time. No need to wait because life does not wait. Time does not slow down and you don’t know when your clock will stop running. Kobe and his daughter didn’t know. I’m sure all of you have heard the unbelievable news. I won’t spend too much time talking about it because it hurts me to even think about it, but the night of his death, I had horrible dreams. He and his daughter were even in my dream and I found myself waking up in the middle of the night to pray. I’m not a fan of basketball, I never even watched the games really, but a prominent, black, hard-working father, player, husband and human being lost his life along with his daughter in a horrible way. If that doesn’t tug on some heartstrings, you may need to do some introspective thinking. It’s closer to home than you think.

I heard a lot of people say that 2020 is the year. The year of wealth, the year to take back all that was stolen and the year of unlimited success. For some reason, I didn’t quite feel that way. I’m not sure why my energy wasn’t following suit with the rest of the world, but I went into 2020 a little slow. I didn’t jump on my goals or get a fresh start on perfecting my business. I kind of eased my way into the year. Maybe I needed it to rest. For the past 3 years, my life has been mentally and physically hectic. I suffered some trauma that I really didn’t tend to as I should’ve. So, maybe January was a recharge. I found myself getting back to my goals late in the month. Which is why I am just now writing a blog post. I’ve wanted to for some time, but I couldn’t find my mind clear enough to write. So, I’m now, beginning again.

Some quick updates and a new introduction for the year: I’m still on my sustainable style journey. I’ve been doing quite well, which brings me to a new update of a new wardrobe challenge that I’m participating in called #20in2020. This challenge was created by a sustainable style blogger and it basically means only buying 20 wardrobe related items in the year 2020. I love this idea! It allows you to really shop intentionally because you only have 20 items that can be purchased throughout the whole year. That’s 365 days! That’s 2 items per month for 10 months and the last 2 months of the year with a complete no buy. I’m tweaking the challenge for my journey a bit by not counting the wardrobe basics that I purchase. I’m still in the process of building my wardrobe, so things like a good white tee or a classic black blazer are things that I still am in need of. I’ve created an Instagram highlight on my feed for my #20in2020 purchases, so if you want to keep up to date with what I purchase throughout the year, you can follow me here.

In other news, my sister started a jewelry business called Bee Luxury Co. I’m featuring her earrings and ring in these photos. I’m wearing her “Rome” earrings and her “Madrid” ring. The Rome earrings are currently sold out and her pieces have been selling out fast, so make sure that you follow her on Instagram to stay updated when she drops new pieces. She has some new collections coming up and all I’m going to say is that you don’t want to miss it! I’ll be featuring lots of her jewelry on my blog, so you can shop your pick of jewels with code “Britney” to save some money!

On to my look…It’s quite simple, but I love my color palette. When I wear simple pieces, I focus more on fit, cut and color. Lately, I’ve been wearing a lot of neutrals (mostly black) on my Instagram. I haven’t really featured a lot of color for the fall and winter season, which is something that I typically do. This was a refreshing change to break up the neutrality. This is my first time styling this sleeveless turtleneck on my blog, but I’ve worn it many times outside of the internet. I consider it to be so sexy. I love razor cut fronts on tops that expose more of your shoulders and a bit of your chest. It’s a simple way to give a little skin without doing too much. I’ve styled these jeans before here and the cardigan (one of my favorites) here. I’m sad that I didn’t buy it in black and grey because I am now on the hunt for black, cream and camel or tan duster cardigans. I decided to keep the palette warm and toasty with a pair of leather boots that I absolutely love. Simple, modern and feeling every bit of it!

Thanks for sticking with me and joining me back on the blog today. I’ve posted some new looks that I didn’t feature in blog posts, so take a look at my Lookbook to view all of the new pictures.
